Laurel Civics center played a vital role in my childhood, school wise and recreationally, and I am so lucky to have taken part in the many programs they have available. Firstly, for me, I was in 6th grade. Awkward and a brain like a sponge. I was able to grow, after school, in a such a safe and creative environment. It helped me branch out and learn what kind of person I wanted to be. For my family, coming from one of seven kids and my parents both working full time jobs, this was a godsend for them. They are so grateful. The community has always been strong and warm. Most events have become family traditions. My youngest brother is 9 and always looks forward to Christmas at the Laurel Civic. I am 26, currently living in San Diego, California. I work downtown at The Old Spaghetti Factory as a Marketing Assistant and Secretary. Of course I serve and bartend on the side. I love the west coast, but my heart will always be in the East. After graduating from the Riverview High School IB program in 2019, I now attend Northeastern University in Boston pursuing a degree in Media and Screen Studies. I graduated with a B.S. from Georgia Institute of Technology in Materials Science & Engineering in 2015 and an M.S. in Nanotechnology at University of Central Florida. Currently, I’m in my 5th year Nanoengineering Ph.D. student at University of California, San Diego.
